Friday's Treat

So I decided I am going to start sending treats with my husband every friday to his work. My sisters will have to correct me here but I always remember hearing about my Mom making home made pizza for my dad to take to the mill when we were all young ( I don't even know if I was born yet actually ). Like I said my sisters will have to verify this story but I thought I would start doing the same for my husband. I told him he probably won't get pizza every friday but the guys he works with aren't picky!!

So the first thing I made for him was actually at his request, Cinnamon Rolls!

Now I have to say that these turned out really well. They were big and fluffy with cream cheese frosting. I love to make cinnamon rolls. They are one of my favorites.

As you can see I did make a few other things as well, homemade bread and banana muffins. I love homemade bread. Nothing is better than a warm piece of bread straight from the oven with butter and brown sugar!!! I would live on bread, you can do so many things with it. The muffins were pretty good too but my husband said the cinnamon rolls were definitely the favorite.

Hope you enjoyed the pictures. Can't wait to see what I make for next week!!

Have a great weekend, ya'll

Our First Dentist Trip

Last week Luke had his first dentist appointment. He was so good. The only problem he had was that he wouldn’t stop talking so they could check his teeth. He’s a story teller (that he gets from his Dad). He jumped up in the chair and was very excited. Everything was so new to him.  He even let the girl clean his teeth.

He asked her a bunch of questions. She was very nice and answered all of them, even the ones he tried to ask in the middle of flossing. It’s so fun to watch them experience new things. Then to hear him recount his trip to Dad that night was hilarious. Just a quick example of how he explained the cleaning, “and the girl shot water in my mouth”. They told him he was one of the best child patients that they have had in a long time. That always makes you feel good as the mother. Now, we’ll see if Mac gets the same results.

Cupcakes

Last night I was looking for a recipe for strawberry / chocolate cupcakes and came across this amazing idea and recipe.  I don't know why, but all  my chocolate recipes are so detailed. They consist of melting chocolate and then you have to wait for it cool. Needless to say they aren't quick recipes. And when you don't start a dessert till 8pm or later all that just sounds like too much work. But, this recipe was so easy and fast. I was done with everything in about an hour.

So, when my husband came home from school his "snack" was waiting for him. The next time I make this though I am defiently going to use the strawberries. The kids will love seeing the strawberries on fire.

If you want a quick chocolate cake recipe try this one.

"Teddy Love"

This is Lyla's favorite!!

My sister Christine sent this little bear to me for the baby as soon as I told her I was pregnant. It was the first "baby" thing that we had and I absolutely love it. I think the pictures speak for how much Lyla enjoys it.

During her play times she loves to talk to "teddy". It is just adorable! When she takes naps or goes to bed "teddy" is right there with her!

I know this is going to be that thing that she loves the most!!

Thanks Aunt Christine!

A Work in Progress

So, I know it may be hard to believe but I still do not have Lyla's room done yet. I know there is really no excuse for it but I always seem to be working on something else ( like feeding times and changing diapers. It is apparently never ending ). I did have to change the room I was going to use so that changed the color scheme and decor and I have had a hard time finding something else that I like. I didn't want it to be the basic nursery decor. After much searching and mind changing I think I finally know what I want to do. Here are a few pictures of the things that I like.

This is a picture from a shop on Etsy. I love these kinds of pictures. They seem so dainty and unique. Here is another one that I really like as well.

Aren't they just adorable?!! I thought about trying to make them myself but I have not been able to find paper prints that I like as much as theses ones so I am going to break down and order them. Lyla is worth every penny;)
So there are some of my ideas, or rather prints that I am trying to base her room around. I also have flowers on the wall with her name. Everything is white with just a little bit of very light pink. I will post finished pictures as soon as I have everything in!!! I can't wait to see the end result.

BOO BOO NIGHT
I know, not the best title for a post. But, that’s what last night at cubbies was called. They have nights with different themes and the kids dress up according to that theme. Luke doesn’t usually participate in these nights because I don’t get home from work till 5:30 pm and Awana’s starts at 6:00 pm. Needless to say it’s always a mad dash to get everybody’s shoes and coats on and in the van. We are usually a couple of minutes late as it is. But, last night my sisters dressed him up. When I came home I had to do a double take. My first thought was that he and his brother had really been fighting.

But, before I could say anything, he said “Mommy, they put makeup on my face. Boy’s don’t wear makeup.”

He was fine with the ACE bandages on his hands though. He thought he looked like a boxer. I think they did a pretty good job. Everybody that participated got to put their name in a bowl.  His name was drawn. He won a $15 McDonald’s gift card. Of course, he had to know its whereabouts for the rest of the night. He was afraid Mom was going to use it. He was pretty proud to show his Dad when he came home. Of course, he made sure to inform his Dad that it was his money. I am so glad that he loves going to Cubbies so much. On the way home he always tells us about their story, what songs they sang and what games they played. It’s so funny to hear Mac and he talk about it. Mac can’t wait till he is old enough to go. It kills him every time we drop Luke off.
On a side note. I have finally finished the curtains for the living room and the dining room curtains are almost finished. I should be posting about that in the next day or two.

The Rodericks Christmas

We had a wonderful Christmas this year. I think having the kids older makes a huge difference. We also had my two younger sisters this year. I actully had to get the kids up to open the presents. After opening the presents we went to church. Then it was home to start on the turkey dinner.

Our tree this year. One of the main priorities for me in getting ready for Christmas is a fresh cut Christmas tree. This year we got a ten foot tree. I loved it, it was the biggest tree we have gotten.

I have a couple of Barbie ornaments that my Grandmother had gotten me over the years. I now have someone to pass them on to.  This year I bought Rhiannon a new Barbie ornament. I loved this one.

I have a little helper now. She wants to be right with me. She stayed in the kitchen with me on Christmas Eve the whole time I was in there.

Of course the boys came running when they heard I was doing the turkey. Luke had to make sure it was dead. Mac thought it was nasty. Rhainnon was showing the boys what to do. I think I have the smallest kitchen in Anchorage. So, when the newest addition comes, I have no idea where he is going to stand.

Rhainnon and I on Christmas morning. She defiently looks better first in the morning than I do.

Trying to get a picture with all three looking is about impossible. Our three kiddos on Christmas morning waiting to open the presents.

I love watching the kids get so excited about the smallest things. They had so much fun. I think next year will be even better. I hope everyone else had as blessed a Christmas as the Rodericks household.

We are now looking forward to the new year and the newest addition to our family that will be coming in April.

Christine
